Kitchen Remodel In Black Earth

Add Function To A Charming Renovated Farmhouse

“My favorite thing is the new calm presence that greets me first thing every morning.”

This was a kitchen remodel with in the existing footprint of the current kitchen. It was a renovated farmhouse with exposed log walls and a staircase flanking it, so no room to expand. The client’s wanted to maintain the character of the home while updating the aesthetics and functionality. The couple also enjoyed cooking together and needed to maintain counter space and a central island for workspace.

Storage was a problem so taking the cabinets to the ceiling allowed a bit more storage. We closed in an exterior window that allowed us to properly vent the new range and add uppers to either side. Undercabinet lighting and overhead task lighting were added to brighten the space. A soapstone countertop was selected for its warm, natural aesthetics and its easy care. An earthy green backsplash was selected to maintain the natural elements already existent in the home and tied in nicely with the natural stone, natural logs, and wood cabinets.
